The popular Paws To Read program will run every Tuesday until May 25. Children in kindergarten through fifth grade can come to the Main Library and read their favorite books to the dogs. These Therapy Pets have been certified, passing temperament and sociability tests. BikeAlameda is offering a FREE three hour workshop, taught by a bicycle safety instructor certified by the League of American Bicyclists. In this class you will learn the basic rules of the road as they apply to bicyclists, how to dress and equip your bicycle, helmet fitting, using transit with your bike, safety information and the main principles of riding responsibly, predictably, and visibly, as well as communicating with motorists by your actions and signals. Both novice and experienced cyclists have benefited from this particular class. Thanks to an IBM Community Grant obtained by BikeAlameda, each attendee will receive a free helmet (while supplies last).

This year the tour features eight homes from Central Alameda to the East End, highlighting a mix of historical periods and architectural styles. Participants will partake of exterior charms, lush garden settings, and varied interiors in this exhibit of homes built between 1883 and 1913. The tour is hosted by the Alameda Architectural Preservation Society (AAPS) and the Alameda Museum, both non-profit organizations dedicated to maintaining our small town ambiance and cherished older buildings. Proceeds fund programs unique to each non-profit organization. The tour is sponsored by Little House Cafe, winner of a 2008 Preservation Award.

The popular Paws To Read program will run every Tuesday until May 25. Children in kindergarten through fifth grade can come to the Main Library and read their favorite books to the dogs. These Therapy Pets have been certified, passing temperament and sociability tests. There will be two twenty-minute sessions each Tuesday, starting at 3:45 p.m. and 4:15 p.m., and registration is required. The Alameda Free Library is located at 1550 Oak Street.
