Submitted by on 1, March 3, 2011 – 12:03 amNo Comment

Alameda celebrates the Year of the Rabbit this Saturday, March 5 with the Harbor Bay Intercultural Committee’s 13th annual Lunar New Year Festival. The festival takes place from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Harbor Bay Landing Shopping Center, 800 Island Drive.

Featured performers include the Lincoln Middle School Marching Band, which performed in San Francisco’s Chinese New Year parade on February 19 (they’re featured in the video to your left); the Dan Chan Magic Show; and the Young Swallows Orchestra. The performances, which begin at noon, will include a karate demonstration, multicultural dances and a martial arts and lion dance performance.

The festival will also have booths and activities that include a Chinese calligraphy and brush painting booth, jewelry making, arts and crafts, a fruit carving demonstration and a balloon clown.

The event is free and open to the public; more information is available on the Community of Harbor Bay Isle’s website.
