Island sports: Alameda Rugby update
After falling 10-0 in a mid-week game to a strong traveling Canadian team from Shawnigan Lake, the Alameda Girls rebounded with a thumping of Humboldt, 63-0. Kalila Patete and Elena Tran each scored twice; Ashley Hom, Keiko Tokuda, and Amelia Camacho each put one try on the board; and Michelle Foketi had her first hat trick, scoring three tries. Caitlin Reid also scored four conversions and a try for 13 total points.
This served as a great tune-up match for the Riptide’s next league game against Bishop O’Dowd at Thompson Field on March 26. Patete and Rachel Fisi’iahi received honors for back and forward of the game, respectively.
The boys were unable to play this week due to scheduling issues, but were soundly defeated by Bishop O’Dowd on Monday night, 43-0. Next week they travel to Berkeley to face the Rhinos at Gilman Field.
