EDITOR’S NOTE: This piece has been updated based on new information from the Alameda Police Department. The case had originally been reported as an attempted child kidnapping, but police have revised their assessment of the case.
Alameda police are looking for a man who they say inappropriately touched a 10-year-old girl near an elementary school on Tuesday.
Police said the girl told a teacher at Washington Elementary School on Tuesday morning that a man had inappropriately touched her near the intersection of Eighth Street and Central Avenue before school was in session. They said the girl escaped from the man with the help of an unidentified woman and that the suspect ran away.
Police described the suspect as an Hispanic male, 5’10” to 6’0″, weighing between 180 and 230 pounds. They said the man was wearing a black, hooded sweatshirt; a black T-shirt; and blue jeans.
Police are asking anyone with information about the alleged incident or the Good Samaritan who assisted the girl to contact them, at 337-8317.
