Super Bowl poll: Packers or Steelers?

Submitted by on 1, February 5, 2011 – 9:00 am3 Comments

Super Bowl Sunday is just about upon us. Who are you rooting for? (And more importantly, where?) If you’ve got a great Super Bowl viewing spot staked out here in Alameda or have any 411 for Island readers on parties here in town, let us know in the comments section below.

In the meantime, we’ve got two local Super Bowl events to tell you about. First up, the folks over at the Alameda Social Club are hosting The Big Game Football Party over at Shays Cafe. Admission is $25 for adults, $12 for kids ages 5 to 13 and free for kids under 5, and limited babysitting will be available for a fee. Your ticket buys you access to pre-game festivities, which begin at 2:30 p.m., and a buffet that will include sandwiches and salads, homemade chili, snacks, cookies and brownies and soda, beer and wine. Shays is at 2711 Encinal Avenue.

Bridge Point Church is hosting a Super Bowl Sunday party at 10 a.m. Sunday. The church, which is led by Oakland Raiders chaplain Adam Ybarra, is offering the opportunity to meet Raider Tony Stewart and to get a free family photo taken by an official NFL photographer. They’ll also have free hot dogs and popcorn. They’re at Ruby Bridges Elementary School, 351 Jack London Avenue.

Which Super Bowl team are you rooting for?

  • Green Bay Packers (57%, 152 Votes)
  • Pittsburgh Steelers (38%, 102 Votes)
  • I only watch it for the commercials (5%, 11 Votes)

Total Voters: 265

Is there a game or something tomorrow? :-)

We often go to the movies, take a walk, or go for a long bike ride. As long as we’re home by the time the game ends (to avoid the drunks on the road) it’s a great day to do something productive….

    steelers all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • love both of them. but honestly if ur saying defense wins championships, u hav to be saying the steelers. defensively, steelers has the slight edge. they are no. 1, packers are number TWO. offense, packers hav the edge, with the great passing game, but without the running game they are a one trick pony now, especially against the steelers run defense. and clay matthews is a great playmaker, but hes nowhere near troy polamalu yet. and steelers hav the experience advantage, i say steelers 24-20.
