Today’s must-read: Oakland police investigate death of former Alameda schools trustee
Oakland police are investigating the death of onetime Alameda school board trustee Berresford “Berry” Bingham as a homicide, the Oakland Tribune is reporting. The paper identified Bingham as political director for SEIU Local 1021 and a former member of Alameda’s school board.
The Tribune reports that two SEIU employees found Bingham dead in his West Oakland home on Tuesday morning when they went to check on him after Bingham’s son called their office looking for him. Police told the Tribune that Bingham, 64, had trauma to his body, but they wouldn’t say how he was killed.
Bingham, a single father of three, served on Alameda’s school board from 1994 to 2002 after retiring from the Navy and was its first black member.
