Procession, memorial honoring fallen fire captain to be held Friday
The public is invited to view a procession and to attend a memorial service in honor of Alameda Fire Captain Scott Carnevale, who died January 3 of cancer he contracted on the job. The procession begins at 9:30 a.m. Friday, January 14 and will travel across the entire Island, and the service will be held at 11 a.m. aboard the USS Hornet.
Prior to Friday’s procession and memorial, the Alameda Firefighters Association is hosting a blood drive in Carnevale’s honor. The blood drive starts at 8 a.m. today at Fire Station One, 2401 Encinal Avenue. Alameda police will manage traffic during the procession. The route is as follows:
Begin at Fire Station Four, 2595 Mecartney Road
Travel eastbound on Mecartney
Turn left on Island Drive and continue north
Cross the Bay Farm Island bridge and turn right on Fernside Boulevard
Turn left on Encinal Avenue
Continue on Encinal Avenue past Fire Station One to Grand Street
Turn right on Grand Street to Pacific Avenue at Fire Station Three
Turn left on Pacific Avenue to Fire Station Two
Continue on Pacific Avenue westbound
Turn left on Skyhawk Street
Turn right on West Hornet Avenue
