Alameda Soccer Club announces competitive tryouts
Alameda Soccer Club (ASC) announces that tryouts for competitive soccer will be held on Saturday, February 12 and Sunday February 13. All players who have played in competitive soccer as either Class I or Class III players are encouraged to participate in tryouts.
Competitive Select teams play under the team name “Islanders” and are coached by experienced, highly qualified coaches, who apply to and are selected by the club. ASC has joined Norcal Premier Soccer League, where teams are flighted to their playing ability and play in well-balanced, challenging flights, which fosters player development and enjoyment for the game.
Players who have played on recreational teams are also encouraged to come out to see the players and to talk to the coaches about playing competitive soccer in ASC. ASC has contracted this past year with 24-7 UK Soccer Academy, which uses professional, trained coaches, to help train and develop players.
This past year, ASC had the most teams placing in the top of their divisions and looks to improve their competitive teams in 2011. As part of the commitment to player development, ASC sponsored an end-of-the-season All-Star game for recreational players in the U10-U14 divisions and played against the Montclair Soccer Club All-Star teams. These 2010 All-Stars are encouraged to tryout for competitive soccer in their respective age groups.
Tryouts will be held at either Hornet Field or Atlantic Field and the exact times will be posted on the Alameda Soccer Club website.
In 2010, the Islanders U11 Boys team went 18-0 in the Norcal Premier league and won their State Cup bracket in the 2010 season under Coach Griff Neal, while the U13 Girls team were champions in the Norcal Premier Soccer Bronze Division under Coach Bill Shiber and U14 Boys were champions of the CYSA District 4 Gold Division under Coach Ben Putterman.
In recreational play, teams that topped their flights included the U10 Girls Red Dragons, under Head Coach Paul Stiling; the U10 Girls Leopard Rats, under Head Coach Kevin Jordan; the U10 Girls Fire Power, under Head Coach Steven Adams; the U10 Girls Jaguars, under Head Coach David Watt; the U12 Girls Wildfire, under Head Coach Juan Morales; the U12 Boys Terminators, under Head Coach Ron Johnson; and the U14 Girls Soccer Angels, under Head Coach David Hall.
