Your weekend in holiday fun: Winter Island!
Christmas Day will come and go Saturday, but that doesn’t mean you’re consigned to leftovers and long return lines in the days to follow. The city and the West Alameda Business Association are putting on a two-week festival of fun known as Winter Island, and they’re offering some fun performances in the days to come.
On Sunday night, DJ Cutso of the Fingerbangerz will be manning the wheels of steel (with friends), offering demonstrations and performances and a discussion about how they move the masses. Doors open at 6 p.m. for the evening’s festivities, which begin at 6:30 p.m. and end at 9. Admission is $5, free with a receipt showing a purchase at a local restaurant or shop on Sunday.
The tent will also host a show on Monday. At 7 p.m., the tent will host a swing-night double header featuring the rockabilly, swing and R&B sounds of The Hi-Rhythm Hustlers and San Francisco sextet Stompy Jones. DJ Tanoa “Samoa Boy” spins in between sets. Admission to the show is $5, or free with receipt.
Tuesday night’s show will feature youth music and dance groups. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show begins at 6:30 p.m., and admission is free.
A full schedule of events is available on the Alameda Winter Island website.
