“Thank you Alameda!! You have helped us beat our goal of 600 turkeys by Thanksgiving,” they wrote on their website. The food bank is still striving to collect 317 turkeys and hams for the December holidays.
A donation drive sponsored by InAlameda which was also run here on The Island gathered enough money to purchase 203 turkeys, which helped push the food bank over the top Friday. The turkeys are being purchased this weekend. InAlameda will continue to collect donations for turkeys until the December holiday goal is reached.
The food bank is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today (Saturday) and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays for donation dropoffs. You can also leave a grocery bag of food on your porch today for local scouts and their helpers to pick up.
You can also donate nonperishable food at the Bank of Alameda and other locations, which are listed on the food bank’s website.
