Students raise money for San Bruno explosion victims
A quintet of Bay Farm Elementary students has raised $1,254 for victims of a September 9 gas pipe explosion in San Bruno. The money will be donated to the Red Cross.
Fourth graders Morgan Devlin, Rowan Esquer, Kaitlyn Ogata, Desmond Ho and Gabrielle Guevara – a group that dubbed themselves “The Lifesavers” – made announcements before school for a week seeking donations, which they collected in buckets with the help of their friends.
“These kids came up with the idea, did all the collections, and even wrote scripts every night for the announcements they’d make the next day in front of the school. Some of them even wrote letters to accompany the money to the Red Cross,” proud mom Lynn Christiansen Esquer said.
Parents rewarded the group with a low-key pizza celebration at LaVal’s Pizza in Harbor Bay Landing.
