Island sports: Alameda Soccer Club update
Kao Destroyers U10 ASC games
Kao Destroyers – again showing promise! For the last two games, our team has worked hard and polished their skills against tough opponents. On October 9, with half of the team missing, the Destroyers had a victory of 4-1, which highlighted their endurance, teamwork and coordination. On October 16, these same playing elements were not enough to repeat the same success, but let it be known the Kao Destroyers will be back, so keep posted!

Alameda Islanders 4, Hayward Leon 1
Carrie Simmons scored twice in the first six minutes of the Islanders’ October 16 game, and then assisted on two more goals with crosses from her right outside mid position. Simmons’ second goal was a beauty – a 25-yard blast from the right side, over the head of the keeper and into the far corner of the net. Erynn Naccarelli and Maddy Lewis scored Alameda’s final two goals, Lewis on a header. And for the third straight game, an Islander field player – Claire Drewery this time – saved an opposing shot from going into the net. Keepers Jordan Cenidoza and Lilly Bramble combined to stop eight Hayward shots.
Alameda Islanders 1, Piedmont Highlanders 1
Katherine Hanover’s goal midway through the second half of the Islanders’ October 17 game gave the Islanders a tie, leaving them in a first-place tie in the Gold flight with the Montclair Clippers, with a record of 5-1-1. Hanover poked home a line drive shot through traffic in front of the net, after receiving a crossing pass from Kaitlin Yee.
U14 Boys United Select
MDB Construction, Inc. Alameda United 5, Rockridge Sting 1
After getting stung by an early Sting goal, Alameda’s U14 Select Boys woke up and worked together to shut Rockridge down, inspired by the play of defenders Wesley Cheung and Kenyon Ebert and midfielder Elijah Williams. Williams also scored a goal and assisted on another by Jano Heljo, who scored twice and provided a perfect corner kick for one of Michael Woodworth’s two goals, a highlight-reel header. Cameron Burns gave a great feed for one of Heljo’s goals.
