Walnut Creek Blast 2, Alameda Islanders 2
The Alameda Islanders U13 girls soccer team played a round-robin tournament based at Caldecott Field over Labor Day weekend, with five other local competitive U13 and U14 teams. Between enjoying the good weather and spending time with friends, the U13s won each of their four games, coming in first place. In their first two league games this past weekend, the Islanders tied both games 2-2, with the action including a frenetic final 15 minutes in the game against the Walnut Creek Blast in which the Blast went ahead with two goals in the space of five minutes, only to have the Islanders respond with two goals of their own in the final five minutes of the game, the whistle blowing right after the heart attack-inducing equalizer. Passing has been attractive and scoring has been well distributed so far, with six players finding the back of the net 17 times over the last seven tournament and league games.
