Stark featured speaker at Dem Club meet
The Alameda Democratic Club’s guest speaker for August is none other than Congressman Pete Stark. He’ll be on hand to answer your questions from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. this Wednesday, August 11 on the second floor of Alameda Hospital, 2070 Clinton Avenue.
The meeting is free and open to the public. More information on the Democratic Club is here.
Stark has become a favorite target of activists who oppose federal health care reform, of which he was a leading proponent. (The Golden Gate Minutemen released this video snippet of an exchange at a recent town hall meeting where a woman equated new federal health care guarantees with slavery and Stark said the constitution offers few limits preventing the federal government from creating such rules.)
The club is hosting a candidate forum in September. Candidates for all the local races – mayor, City Council, school board, Health Care District Board, AC Transit, and BART board – have been invited to speak. That forum will be held on September 15 at the hospital, and will also begin at 7 p.m.
