The Contra Costa Times’ Matt Krupnick reports that the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges has placed the Peralta Community College District on probation, a possible prelude to the revocation of the district’s accreditation. The district includes the College of Alameda.

Krupnick reports that district leaders received a letter on Tuesday from accreditors saying they had major concerns about “the fiscal solvency and stability” of the district. District leaders have until October to fix the problems, he wrote.

So how soon can the athletic facilities in the back of COA revert to the City of Alameda Parks
& Rec, where they should have been all along? I understand they were built courtesy
of a general obligation bond, not specific to the Peralta District at all. They
should have never been under the Peralta District management. Then the lights
from Hornet Field and/or Encinal’s Field could be moved over there to be
used for football games, etc., for the schools and youth programs (at a much lesser rate than the usurious
fees the COA now charges. No disrespect, but I mean really – why does COA need
    these athletic facilities?
