Your weekend: Summer Beats
Alameda’s summer concert lineup grows tonight with the addition of Alameda Towne Centre’s Summer Beats concert series. They’ve got three months of free shows lined up every Thursday and Saturday night in Centre Court. Shows begin at 5:30 p.m.
Thursday’s show will be performed by Pure Ecstasy, which has played Motown favorites across for audiences all over the Bay Area for 15 years. Local Flamenco guitarist (and Starland Music Center founder) Tomas Michaud performs on Saturday.
The series includes offers a wide variety of musical styles and a host of local bands performing in two dozen concerts, including the Bay Island Ramblers bluegrass band (June 24), jazz singer Natasha Miller (July 24) and Jewish surf stars Meshugga Beach Party (August 19). It concludes on September 18 with the California Beach Boys tribute band.
“Our concert series in the center mall area has been very gratifying for me personally. To see this mall go from something that reflected the ’60s to what we have created today and to showcase our events and great musical talent is special,” said Mike Corbitt, retail portfolio manager for Harsch Investment Properties, which owns Alameda Towne Centre.
Towne Centre, of course, is at the corner of Park Street and Otis Drive. Their phone number is 521-1515. And parking is free.
