NoTube (and Fruitvale Bridge closures loom)
The Tube will close at 9:30 p.m. today and reopen at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, then close again at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and reopen at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday. Caltrans is closing the Tube for roadway sump, drain inlet and call box maintenance, the city’s website says.
In the meantime, get ready for some Fruitvale Bridge closures this summer, for installation of a new timber pile system. (Apparently the existing timber dolphins and piles deteriorated due largely to a marine borer infestation.) Closures will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on each of the closure dates to minimize commute impacts and nose from pile driving.
Closures are planned for June 18, June 21-25, June 28, July 14-16, July 19-22, August 13 and August 16-20. During the closure dates and times, drivers are asked to use the Park Street and High Street bridges.
More information on the Fruitvale Bridge closures will be available on the Alameda County Public Works Agency’s website; by calling their 24-hour hotline at 670-5712; or by following up with them directly, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Oh, and before I forget, there’s a repaving project that just started on Buena Vista Avenue, from Grand to Willow. That’ll be going on until July. Look for lane closures and lost parking. Hours will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. If you’ve got any questions on the project, call Laurie Kozisek at 749-5840.
