If you’re a poet and you know it …
… then the folks at Artists Embassy International and Alameda Island Poets have just the thing for you. They’re calling all poets to participate in their first-ever Summer Site Write, which is going on right now over at Alameda Towne Centre.
Here’s how it works: Poets of all ages can get their application and VIP stamp from Borders Books or Dress Barn and then make their way through the shopping center until the spirit moves them to write. Completed poems and applications are due in at Borders by June 10.
The poems will be displayed around the shopping center from June 14-June 27, and some of the poets will be selected to participate in a reading at 2 p.m. June 26 in the mall’s center court. Audience favorites will be read July 7 at Borders.
In addition to having their work recognized, participating poets will be entered into a raffle for gift certificates, T-shirts and other prizes, and their VIP stamp will entitle them to discounts at participating stores.
Poems must be no more than 28 lines, and must be typed or written legibly on one side of an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper. Each poem must list a copyright and name at the bottom of the page. Poets are asked to keep a copy of their poems, since the one they’ll submit will not be returned.
Towne Centre, of course, is at the corner of Park and Otis. More details are available here.
