Today’s must-read: Diageo closes Rosenblum
Does it seem to you like this week has brought more news than you could possible handle? (No? Maybe it’s just me.) Anyhoo, I wanted to pass along this little item that was burning up the wires Wednesday afternoon:
The San Francisco Business Times is reporting that booze behemoth Diageo is closing our own Rosenblum Cellars as part of its cost-cutting effort and moving production of the wine to Napa. Rosenblum’s Alameda tasting room will stay open, but a satellite in Healdsburg will close, the paper says.
The Business Times picked up the story from Wine Spectator, which reported that namesake Kent Rosenblum is less than thrilled about the move.
“I think this is what happens when you let bean-counters run a company,” he told the magazine. “I’m trying to stay positive, though. Maybe it can be done elsewhere.”
