Monday, May 10


ASSAULT ARREST: Police arrested Jose Luis Becerra, 39, of Alameda, on charges of assault, exhibiting a weapon and possession of a controlled substance. Police picked up Becerra at 6:36 a.m. on warrants for the charges on the 1800 block of Minturn Street and transported him to Alameda City Jail.

BURGLARY: Police are looking for the person or persons who, they said, stile 71 bike forks, 13 VCRs and a box full of steel brackets from a storage unit in the 1800 block of Webster Street. Police said the items went missing sometime between January 1, 1997 and 4:33 p.m. today. The value of the items was not listed.

BURGLARY: Police are looking for the person or persons who, they said, broke into the gyms at an apartment complex on the 2100 block of Shoreline Drive and took two flat screen televisions valued at $2,000. Police said the items went missing sometime between 10:13 a.m. and 4:53 p.m.


Tuesday, May 11


SUSPICIOUS FIRE: Police received a report of a suspicious fire in an alleyway near the Alameda Animal Shelter. Police said that at around 4:50 p.m., firefighters were called in to put out a fire in the gated walkway, on the 1600 block of Clement Avenue. Police said firefighters found a smoldering piece of scrap wood when they arrived.

Stolen bicycles: Silver and black Schwinn Voyager mountain bike, between 4:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. May 9, from the 1500 block of Park Street.

Stolen autos: Blue 1987 Nissan 300 ZX, between 4 a.m. May 2 and 10:01 a.m. today, from the 1700 block of Pacific Avenue.

Green 1998 Honda Civic, at 9:46 p.m. on the corner of Curlew Court and Gresham Drive. The vehicle was later involved in a hit and run accident.

Black 1991 Honda Accord, between 4:25 p.m. and 9:45 p.m., on the 2800 block of Buena Vista Avenue.


Wednesday, May 12


BURGLARY: Police are looking for the person or persons who, they said, broke into an apartment on the 800 block of Taylor Avenue and took a television valued at $500. Police said that sometime between 1:30 p.m. and 2:07 p.m., someone forced open the victim’s front door, took the television and fled.

Stolen autos: Silver 1986 Toyota Cressida, between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. on the 400 block of Tideway Drive.


Thursday, May 13


ROBBERY ARRESTS: Police arrested Aaron Lamar Burrows, 18, and Tony Joseph Benitez, 18, on robbery charges. Police said Burrows admitted to being involved in a robbery and that the victim and a witness identified Benitez as a second suspect in the same robbery. Police arrested Burrows at 1:42 a.m. on the 1600 block of Otis Drive and Benitez at 1:20 a.m. on the corner of Westline and Otis drives.

FRAUD: Police are investigating an alleged Internet fraud case that left an elderly Alameda resident $2,000 poorer. Police said they were contacted by the 89-year-old man’s son in law, who told them the man had been contacted by a priest he knew in Holland who said he was stranded in London, that he had lost his wallet and needed money. Police said the man sent $2,000.

BATTERY: Police are investigating an alleged battery at a local gym. Police said that at around 8:30 p.m., a fight broke out during a soccer match at the gym, which is on the 800 block of West Tower Road.

Stolen bicycles: Black Specialized Hardrock boys bike, between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. May 12, from the 1200 block of Fernside Boulevard.


Friday, May 14


BURGLARY ARREST: Police arrested Dejon Marquis Hendrix, 18, of Alameda, on burglary and grand theft charges. Police said they arrested Hendrix on warrants for those charges at 2 p.m. on the 2200 block of Santa Clara Avenue.

ROBBERY ARREST: Police arrested James Manuel Gregory, 45, no address given, on robbery, grand theft and other charges. Police said Gregory was allegedly caught trying to rob a clothing store at Alameda Towne Centre and that he allegedly threatened to cut store employees with a knife if they didn’t let him go. Police said they apprehended Gregory shortly before 7 p.m. on the 1100 block of Broadway and that they found him to be in possession of a hypodermic needle containing heroin and that he had a warrant for additional charges.

Stolen bicycles: White Specialized 20-speed, between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., from the 1600 block of Park Street.


Saturday, May 15


ARMED ROBBERY: Police are looking for two suspects in an alleged armed robbery. Police said that at around 2:15 a.m., two suspects approached the victim as he exited his vehicle on the 3200 block of Fir Avenue and demanded money. They said one of the suspects had a knife. A second suspect punched the victim after he handed over $50 in cash. Police described the first suspect as a male between the ages of 20-25, 5’10” and 160 pounds, with black hair and a dark complexion. They said the suspect was wearing a hoodie and blue jeans. The second suspect was described as a white male age 23 or 24, 5’6” and 150 pounds, with blond hair. They said the second suspect was wearing a black jacket and blue jeans.

BURGLARY: Police are investigating an alleged burglary of an apartment on the 500 block of Pacific Avenue. Police said that sometime between 6:30 a.m. and 4:15 p.m., someone kicked in the front door of the apartment, stole $500 in cash and fled.


Sunday, May 16


IMPAIRED DRIVING ARREST: Police arrested Zenney Nguyen, 18, of Alameda, on hit and run, driving under the influence and possession of marijuana for sale charges. Police said Nguyen admitted to driving a vehicle that was involved in an injury-causing crash and that he admitted to consuming an alcoholic beverage and was unable to complete field sobriety tests as instructed. Police said Nguyen also left his backpack and that it contained suspected marijuana and sales paraphernalia, including a weight scale and packaging material, in the vehicle he was driving. Police said two people were injured in the crash, which happened at 4:09 a.m. at the intersection of Webster Street and Lincoln Avenue. Police arrested Nguyen at 5:23 a.m. and transported him to Alameda City Jail.

GRAND THEFT: Police are looking for two people who, they said, used a vehicle to dislodge and take an ATM machine from the 1900 block of Main Street and fled. Police valued the machine and its contents at $6,000.

Stolen autos: Blue 1994 Honda Accord, between 1:39 a.m. and 1:42 a.m., from the 1200 block of College Avenue.

Green 1992 Honda Accord, between 5 p.m. May 15 and 2:30 p.m. today, from the 300 block of Kittyhawk Road.
