The City Council is looking for folks to fill some 18 positions on eight different city boards and commissions. Applications for the volunteer gigs are available from the City Clerk’s office, and you can get those either in person, in Room 380 of City Hall; by calling the clerk’s office at 747-4800; or on the city’s website.
Applications are due in by May 21, and they can be sent to the City Clerk’s office by mail or delivered in person.
The open positions include one seat on the city’s Civil Service Board; two seats on the Historical Advisory Board (though two incumbents are eligible for reappointment to those seats); four seats on the Housing and Building Code Hearing and Appeals Board (including two partial terms set to expire on June 30, 2012); four seats on the Housing Commission (with two incumbents eligible for reappointment); one seat on the Library Board; two seats on the Planning Board (with one incumbent eligible for reappointment); the engineer seat on the Public Utilities Board; and three seats on the Transportation Commission (with one incumbent eligible for reappointment).
Nominations for the boards are made by the mayor and approval rests with the City Council, and they’re supposed to take place between May 1 and July 1. The seats typically carry four-year terms.
Information on each of the boards, including what they do and how often they meet, is available on the city’s website under Boards and Commissions.
