Volunteers needed for Chipman garden

A reader checked in the other day to ask that we spread the word that the folks seeking to create a garden at Chipman Middle School are in need of some volunteers to help. They’re asking folks to send “the strongest body in (their) household” to Chipman from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. this Saturday, April 24 to help get the ground ready for planting in May.

The plan for the garden, incidentally, was designed by Shirley Watts – who was also the creative mind and guiding force behind the charming garden at Haight Elementary School, which will be featured on the Secret Gardens of the East Bay tour this coming weekend.

If you can even spare an hour of your time to help out, they’d be much obliged, the garden’s promoters wrote in an e-mail to fellow parents this week.

“Please, please, please, we need your help!” they said.

Chipman, by the way, is at 401 Pacific Avenue.
