Protex Wax Alameda A’s vs. Burger King/Astropress Firecrackers
We were so excited it decided not to rain for our opening game! Charlotte Daly had a great stop to end the first inning, and Brighid Mahoney had a great lead off hit in the second. Cate Rosenbaum hit it straight down the third base line to drive in a run, and Chloe Altura made an amazing catch at second base. Stella Cashin had a great hit to the short stop to bring our first game to a wonderful end.
Bowzer’s Pizza Blue Jays vs. Alameda Theatre BlueJays
The Bowzer’s Pizza Royal Blue Jays kicked off their season with a spirited game against their Navy Blue Jay counterparts on opening day. It was the first game for every girl and they rose to the occasion. Adele Thompson excelled behind the plate. Hitting stars included Lola Deibert, Shayna Fallin and Abbyrose Connor; each had two hits off live pitches.
Richard H. Tabor DDS Blue Angels 0, SMART Phone & Photo Red Hot Chili Peppers 0
The Smart Phone & Photo Red Hot Chili Peppers played a great first game Saturday at the AGSA season opener. Strong veteran pitching from Rowan Esquer and Kaitlyn Ogata, and a good first-time showing by rookie pitcher Tiana Bullock, held the Blue Angels to no runs and very few hits. Rosie Saxton as catcher led an outstanding Pepper defense. Offensively, the team hit extremely well and loaded the bases at least once.
Little House Café Water Bees 4, Tucker’s Super Creamed Green Dragonflies 2
The Green Dragonflies opened the season against the Water Bees. The Green Dragonflies had a great play at second base by Sydney Watt. Marina Donovan, Deanna Benedetto and Kaelin Griggs all played catcher very well. The game was scoreless until the fourth inning when the Green Dragonflies scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning, only to have the Water Bees score four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Carroll Construction Cyclones 4, Richard H. Tabor, DDS Blue Angels 1
Carroll Construction Cyclones started their season with a 4-1 win over the Blue Angels. Sophia Piamonte and Julianne McKenna combined for five innings of strong pitching, including throwing out two runners at first in the last inning. Each added a hit as well. Olivia Low led off the game with a slashing single, and added another in the second inning. Danielle Archuleta and Jordyn Moore slammed two base hits each while playing tight infield defense for the Cyclones.
Law Offices of Paul F. Mahler Blue Dragons 9, Harbor Bay Realty Go Go Geckos 8
First baseman Rachel Wellman made the first out of the season. Together, pitchers Lily Wilmot and Katrina Eichel struck out five batters. While many Geckos bats were on fire, Cheyanne Rios’s double and Lily Wilmot’s triple were memorable. Without a doubt, the Go-Go Geckos are off to a great start!
Linda C. Avery, PhD Black Knights 6, Airport Home Appliance Galaxy 6
Extra innings couldn’t determine a winner in this hard-fought battle. Strong pitching by the Black Knights’ Elizabeth Avery held the Galaxy offense in check over four scoreless innings while striking out 11 batters. The Black Knight offensive attack was led by Hallie Marker, Elizabeth Avery and Isabella Sheel with two hits apiece. Camille Deatherage and Alex Martinez also scored to contribute to the Black Knight offense.
Barbara Galera, DDS Lightning Bolts 13, Gallagher & Lindsey Fire Devils 8
A strong current of electricity zapped with the Lightning Bolts’ 13-8 win. Annie Lynch, playing left field, had a stellar catch to end a possible comeback rally. Mikayla Wong pitched two quick innings in the top of the fourth and fifth. Speedy Chiara Stiger had a couple of stolen bases. Second baseman Danielle Lee threw two consecutive runners out. Alexis Esparza had a monster hit to left of center field for an outstanding home run. Go Lightning Bolts!
La Estrellita Café Bloo 8, Seven Salon Junior Mints 8
Seven Salon Junior Mints battled the La Estrellita Café Bloo for eight innings in what ended as a tie. It was a true pitchers duel with Samantha Williams (Bloo) and Caroline Liu (Junior Mints) blanking their opponents in each of the final three innings. Sasita Knauer (Mints) and Grace Oransky (Bloo) each pitched two solid innings in support. Tatiana Kelley drove in two runs in the fifth to get the Bloo back in the game and force the tie.
Danish Interiors Pink Panthers 6, Bayside Speciality Construction Transformers 5
Hard hitting and solid defense by both teams lead to a back and forth game. The Transformers scored the first run but the Panthers answered back with a high fly ball by Jackie Carlise that sent Meida Tautalatasi home. Jessie Smith had two RBIs on a hard bouncer. Defensively the Panthers were on the prowl, with Adia Tajima making a key play at the plate and Tara Toy grabbing a hard-hit line drive.
