Earhart parents stand up for teachers

Contributed photo.

We got a nice e-mail from Mindi Chen-Kao late last week letting us know that parents at Amelia Earhart Elementary School were getting together outside the school Monday morning to show support for 13 teachers who were being notified that they could be laid off at the end of the school year. The 13 teachers make up half the school’s teaching staff, and they were on a list of more than 148 teachers (including temporary teachers) who were told Monday they could be laid off.

“All of the 13 teachers who may not return next year, or even worse, who may leave the teaching profession permanently, are passionate educators who have taken pay cuts and are suffering the same pink slips, year after year because they believe in educating our future leaders, THE KIDS!” Chen-Kao wrote. She was kind enough to also send along this photo.
