Alameda Island Aquatics tryouts are April 18
Alameda Island Aquatics is holding its spring 2010 open house and novice program on Sunday, April 18. Tryouts are from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Encinal High School swim center at the corner of Third Street and Central Avenue. The event is free.
Youths ages 5 to 18 who are able to demonstrate basic water safe skills (torpedo and freestyle/crawl) are eligible to try out. Youths who wish to try out must be accompanied by an adult and will need to bring a swimsuit, goggles, a towel and a change of clothes.
The event will include demonstrations by Islander team members, a swim skill assessment by the team’s coaching staff, a discussion by swim team parents and members and a question and answer session.
After the tryouts, the Islanders will offer a six-week novice program for youths who qualify and are interested in “testing the waters” for $100 that begins on April 20 at the Encinal High School swim center. Enrollment is limited to 30 participants and divided into two groups who will practice during 45-minute sessions on Tuesdays through Fridays at 4 p.m. and 4:45 p.m.
Payment and paperwork are required on April 20.
Enrollment packets will be available at the tryouts. More information is available on the Islanders website.
