Looking for a little local fun – and a chance to support your local schools? Two local schools are holding fundraisers over the next two weekends that you may want to check out.

05-10-08_1809-240x300-1On Saturday, Nea Community Learning Center’s got Motown and Margaritas, a fundraiser for the school’s budding music program. The event, which takes place from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday at Michaan’s Auctions by the Bay Theater, 2700 Saratoga Street on Alameda Point, features live Motown and rock tunes from the Bob Claire Orchestra (that’s local trumpeter extraordinaire Jeff Oster’s band), Thai food by Little Plearn and specialty margaritas (and I’d guess that Nea parent and margarita man David Teeters are behind these). The event also includes a silent auction and Texas raffle. And childcare will be available.

Admission for the adult-only event is $15, plus $6 for dinner. Tickets and information are available online (click the link above) or at the door.

inviteThen on Saturday, February 6, you can break out your chic-est skiwear for Franklin Elementary School’s second annual auction gala, A Winter Getaway. The event will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Saturday at the Albert H. DeWitt Officers Club, 641 West Redline Drive at Alameda Point. Tickets are $40, and are available online or at the door.

The event features slient and live auctions (you can look online for the long list of auction offerings, which includes a disco party, Orlando and Mexican getaways, a day of sailing on San Francisco Bay, an instant wine cellar and a whole bunch of super-cute student art). They’ll also have appetizers, cocktails, music and dancing. Day care will be available at Circuits.
