Basketball Recap for the week of January 18, 2010
January 19, Chipman at Wood – Boys
“A” team score: Wood over Chipman, 55-15
“B” team score: Wood over Chipman, 46-22
Sometimes in sports, things just don’t go your way in the numbers department. But real winners aren’t determined by the points on the scoreboard as much as by the way they handle adversity. And in last Tuesday’s game, the Chipman Cougars proved themselves to be real winners as they never let up in hustle and commitment until the bitter end. This trait will certainly serve these young men well in their futures both on and off the court.
This is to take nothing away from the Wood Beavers, who played with great skill and finesse to earn every point they put on the board.
January 20, Wood at Chipman – Girls
“A” team score: Chipman over Wood, 33-31
“B” team score: Chipman over Wood, 33-19
The Lady Beavers traveled to Chipman last Wednesday and the result was two very exciting games. In the “B” game, Chipman took an early lead and held it, in spite of threats by a Beaver squad that never let up. Chipman’s Layce Lawson was determined under the basket to help the Cougars score.
The “A” game was a true nail-biter. Chipman took the early lead, but Wood stormed back to take a one-point lead with 2:20 left in regulation. Chipman’s Destiny Kelly hit the go-ahead basket and the Cougar defense stepped up to secure the 33-31 victory. Said Chipman coach Paxton Griffin, “It was unbelievable. Both teams played awesome!”
