Two companies have bid to be the permanent operator for the Chuck Corica Golf Complex. City officials would not release their names.

Deputy City Manager Lisa Goldman told The Island early last week that proposals were to be reviewed by staff, a consultant, and two members of the Golf Commission, and that the hope is for negotiations to begin in mid-December. “Assuming the negotiations are successful, we’ll bring a contract to Council for approval in the first quarter of 2010,” Goldman said.

The complex is currently being run by Kemper Sports, which got a one-year contract to helm it while city officials worked out a more permanent arrangement for its management.

16-300x189Crews from Top Grade Construction will begin night work today, so get ready for lane closures. The closures will happen from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on several nights, through December 11 so the crews can set k-rail and restripe in preparation for their next phase of work – setting a median down the middle of Webster.

The contractor will close a single southbound traffic lane of Webster, north of Atlantic Avenue, for the work. The work won’t affect nearby businesses, and noise impacts to nearby Independence Plaza will be minimal, a city-written press release says.

kennedy110City Treasurer Kevin Kennedy has a new title: He’s been appointed to the board of Norcal Community Bancorp and the Bank of Alameda.

“This will be a great opportunity for me to continue broadening my financial knowledge, and I believe my 2+ decades of experience in the financial services industry will add value to the Bank,” Kennedy wrote in an e-mail announcing his appointment.

Kennedy, 42, is the president and owner of Kevin Kennedy LLC, a local financial planning firm. He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University at California, Davis and is a registered investment advisor in the State of California. He’s in his third term as the city treasurer and has hosted a business show on cable television and served as a financial columnist for the Alameda Journal.

“We are extremely pleased that Kevin will be joining the Board of Directors of both the
Company and the Bank. His qualifications as a financial planner and his strong ties within the
Alameda community made Kevin an outstanding candidate for selection as an additional director
to our existing board,” the board’s president, James B. Davis, said.

The Bank of Alameda saw a loss of $584,000, or 19 cents per diluted share, in its most recently reported quarter.
