12An Alameda police officer sustained significant injuries in a traffic collision Thursday morning, police said.

Police issued a news release Thursday afternoon that said the officer, a seven-year veteran of the force, was injured at 8:27 a.m. Thursday while performing traffic enforcement duties in the area of Harbor Bay Parkway and South Loop Road.

They said the officer was taken to a local hospital for “non life-threatening injuries” and was expected to recover. They said the department is investigating the incident. Police could not be reached for further details on the incident.

A local resident told The Island that the intersection was closed for most of the day and that the officer’s downed motorcycle was visible in the middle of the street under a canopy where officers investigating the accident were taking measurements.
