Tuesday night, the City Council is set to consider setting a vote on SunCal’s plan for Alameda Point for February 2, 2010.

The date is the next available special election date in Alameda County, City Clerk Lara Weisiger wrote in a report recommending the date. She estimated the cost of the election at $235,000 to $325, not counting the cost of printing the nearly 300-page ballot measure. SunCal has not yet said it will pay the cost of the election, the report said.

The measure includes SunCal’s development plan for the Point and a development agreement with the city. SunCal filed its petition signatures on September 23, and the Alameda County Registrar of Voters certified the petition as sufficient on October 14.

The development plan needs voter approval because it does not comply with Alameda’s Measure A, which prohibits multiple dwelling units on the Island.
