The Daily Astorian (Ore.) is reporting that former Alameda City Manager Jim Flint has died, of cancer. He was 62.

Flint was Alameda’s city manager from 1997 to 2005, when he retired to Astoria, Ore., which he had served as city manager from 1984 to 1989.

Here’s a story about Flint’s final days in office in Alameda.

  • K.J. Sanderberg says:

The damage Flint did to Alameda coffers lives on in the Development Service Department which continues to carry a load of over-classified managers who were promoted during his tenure. Firefighters were handed incredible post-retirement benefit package for themselves and their beneficiaries which the City still can't figure out how to fund and Mr. Flint had a "me too" clause that ensured the same for himself, the Police Chief, City Attorney, and City Clerk. Now the lowest-paid bargaining unit members are being laid off to save the City money. Those employees are generally the revenue generators (code enforcement personnel, billing clerks, etc.).

I'd rather honor the memory of Lor Jarin, a long-time Maintenance Worker for the City, who died two days after Flint and who may never be memorialized in the press.
