Old Navy donates backpacks to kids
Sounds like a group of middle school kids were at the store recently on a job shadow day when store employees asked if they’d like donations of backpacks. John Hamilton, who will be attending Encinal High School this fall and who attended the event, suggested it’d be great if the club had backpacks and school supplies for youths who live at the Esperanza housing complex so that they’d be ready for school. A few days later, club site director Marc Morales got a call saying the supply-filled backpacks were available for pickup.
On August 19, the club handed out backpacks to members. The club’s development director, Kathie Woulfe, said the rest are going to youths living at the Alameda Point Collaborative.
“Thanks to the thoughtfulness of one of our Club kids and the generosity of Old Navy, lots of children will be starting school with a new backpack and supplies to get off on the right foot,” the club’s executive director, George Phillips, wrote. “If you shop at any Old Navy in the East Bay (and I hope you do), take the time to thank them.”
