Late breaking events
Folks, we’ve got some jam-packed weekends coming up on the Island, with a veritable cornucopia of events to choose from. In the past few weeks I’ve reeled off art openings, theater productions, fundraisers and more. And can you believe there’s even more where that came from?
In just the past week alone, I’ve gotten a pile of e-mails about things that are happening this weekend. So without further ado …
The Fireside Lounge is holding another “Celebration of East Bay Wines” from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today. The event will include free tastings from BlackSmith Cellars, JC Cellars and Urbano Cellars. The Fireside is at 1453 Webster Street.
The good folks out at Christ Episcopal Church and First Presbyterian Church are hosting a bicycle donation drive from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in Christ Episcopal’s parking lot, which is at 1700 Grand Avenue. The bikes are going Cycles of Change bicycle shop out at Alameda Point. Folks who donate bikes get free ice cream from Alameda Natural Grocery.
The Alameda Free Library is hosting a “Create Your Own Avatar” program from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the computer lab of the main library, 1550 Oak Street. The free program is geared toward middle and high school students, but anyone is welcome. They’ll have snacks and prizes. For more information or to sign up, call 747-7713.
The Alameda Democratic Club is hosting its annual garden party and fundraiser from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Ann Miller Muir historic house, 1004 Paru Street. The club and state Senator Loni Hancock will offer food, drinks and a silent auction. The cost is $40. For reservations, call 523-3827.
And if you think this weekend is jammed, next weekend we’ve got the Dog Days Part Deux animal rescue benefit at Autobody Fine Art … the huge Splashdown event on the USS Hornet featuring a book signing by astronaut Buzz Aldrin … Park Street’s annual Art & Wine Faire … and probably a whole bunch more I haven’t event got to yet. More next week.
And P.S.: If you’ve got an event you want listed, drop me a line with the who, what, when, where and why the Friday before your event (or sooner if you can) at email@example.com.
