Alameda International All Stars 10, North Oakland 0

The Alameda International All Stars won their first 2009 California District 4 International Tournament game, beating North Oakland 10–0 Monday, July 6 in Oakland.

Alameda’s Robbie Achramowicz singled in the bottom of the first inning and scored Alameda’s first run with aggressive base running and some help from North Oakland pass balls. North Oakland held Alameda to one run and kept the game close, 1–0, through three innings. Alameda bats came alive the bottom of the fourth with a sequence of hits starting with Kaleo Johnson’s single to left followed by another to right by Kevin Andrada. Alex Vick kept it going with an RBI single that scored Johnson. Alameda continued running aggressively as Andrada scored from third on a pass ball. Gregory Ngim kept the rally going with a double, and John Huntoon worked the pitcher to draw a walk. Jarrod Cleto came to bat with bases loaded and knocked in Vick and Ngim with a hit through the infield. Derek Lodge got on base on an error that scored Huntoon. Achramowicz came to bat for the second time in the inning and hit an RBI double with Cleto and Lodge scoring. Johnson followed with an RBI single, bringing in Achramowicz, and eventually scored Alameda’s ninth run of the inning and tenth of the game on Vick’s second single and RBI of the evening.  Because of the Tournament’s 10-run rule, the game ended after Alameda took the lead by 10 runs in the fourth.

Alameda’s Kevin Andrada pitched superbly, allowing only two hits and striking out seven North Oakland batters in four innings. Ryan Fong and Andrew Liu backed Andrada up with solid defense.

Alameda International All Stars 4, Antioch 0

Alameda International All Stars claimed their second win in the 2009 D4 International Tournament game, defeating Antioch 4-0 Tuesday, July 7 in Antioch.

Antioch kept Alameda scoreless through 5 2/3 innings with effective pitching and sparkling defense. Alameda’s Derek Lodge hustled to first base, taking advantage of Antioch’s only error of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. Clutch hitter Ryan Fong came to bat and singled to left to continue what would be a two-out-rally. With two runners on base and two outs, Robbie Achramowicz drilled a double to left driving in the first run of the game. With two outs, two runners on base and Kaleo Johnson at bat, Antioch intentionally walked Johnson after Johnson went two for two in earlier innings. With bases loaded, Alameda’s clean-up batter, Kevin Andrada, came to bat and cashed in with a clean single to left knocking in two more runs. Alex Vick followed with a shot to right center that drove in Andrada, Alameda’s fourth run of the inning and game.

Alameda’s starting pitcher Jarrod Cleto threw spectacularly, allowing no hits and striking out 10 Antioch batters through 5 1/3 innings. Kaleo Johnson preserved the team’s no-hitter and shutout by striking out two more batters to wrap up the game.  Alameda’s relentless defense refused to give Antioch a break by playing sound baseball, securing Alameda’s second win of the D4 International Tournament.

Alameda International All Stars’ next game is at 6 p.m. Friday, July 10 in Lafayette.
