Your weekend: Opera in the Park
Times may be tight, but this summer we’ve got the good fortune of having a veritable cornucopia of free entertainment to enjoy. We’ve got free concerts at Towne Centre and Crab Cove, readings at Books Inc., all kinds of activities at the library – and now, free opera at Franklin Park.
That’s right: Free opera.
A group called Open Opera is putting on a handful of free opera shows this summer, and one of ’em’s going to be right here in Franklin Park, at 3 p.m. this Saturday. The concert will feature professional opera singers from here in the Bay Area performing Mozart, Verdi, Puccini and Bizet.
A second concert, a performance of “The Marriage of Figaro,” will take place on July 25 and 26 at John Hinkel Park in Berkeley. And they’ve got another show scheduled for the fall.
If you’re looking for more information on the shows and performers (or want them to come to your neighborhood – they’re offering), click here. Or you can try calling them at 547-2471 (though I tried calling Wednesday and got a fax beep).
