Stargell extension meeting is Thursday
The city is hosting an informational meeting on its planned Willie Stargell extension project at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 28 at Ruby Bridges Elementary School, 351 Jack London Avenue. The meeting is open to the public.
The city got $4 million in state transportation grant money to build the extension, which is to connect developments at Alameda Point and Alameda Landing to the Webster Tube. The remaining $5 million cost of construction will be paid with local funds (including a $3 million loan from the city’s sewer fund).
Top Grade Construction, which won the contract to build the extension, is slated to begin work in June (so watch out for possible road closures and traffic disruptions on Webster Street north of Atlantic and on Stargell Avenue between Webster Street and 5th Street).
Oh, and speaking of road closures, former Alameda Journal editor Lucinda Ryan – who’s stepping in for blogger/columnist Eve Pearlman this summer – is reminding us that the High Street Bridge is closing from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday beginning today, through September 1. The closure is part of an effort to seismically retrofit the bridge.
