New API scores out

Hey, all you numbers nerds: The state’s latest Academic Performance Index rankings are out. If you want to see how your school did, the data is just a click away.

Here’s the broad brush: Alameda Unified did better as a whole than last year, with an overall score of 810 compared with 805 last year. Anything over 800 is considered excellent by the state’s metric.

But the district did that on the strength of higher scores at most of its middle and high schools (Wood Middle and the BASE charter had lower scores, and not by much; continuation school Island High’s scores slipped by nearly 60 points).

Scores slipped at most of the district’s elementary schools. Only Lum, Otis and Ruby Bridges had higher scores than last year. Washington Elementary lost 30 points, dropping from 798 in 2007 to 768 in 2008.
