Your weekend: Spirits
Alameda is becoming quite the little hub for food and wine lovers. We’ve got a growing collection of great little restaurants on both of our main drags, our very own Slow Food chapter, and some top-notch wine and spirits makers out at the Point – one of whom will be hosting a unique craft spirits event this weekend.
The folks out at Hangar One are hosting the American Distilling Institute’s first-ever “Meet The Maker” craft-spirits festival from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 5. Owners and distillers from more than 40 craft distilleries from every region of the country will be on hand to pour samples and to explain personally how they create their products.
Folks will have the opportunity to taste and buy dozens of the best and hard-to-find artisanal whiskies, brandies, rums, gins, vodkas, absinthe’s and one-of-a-kind liqueurs. I understand they’ll be serving food there as well.
The institute, by the way, is run by noted photographer Bill Owens, who also opened Buffalo Bill’s brew pub down in Hayward. And the event is part of a three-day brandy distilling conference being held at St. George.
