Historic Preservation Season is now

In Alameda, we take our historic preservation seriously. We don’t just celebrate it with a paltry week or month, but an entire season!

The three-month celebration kicked off with a proclamation from the City Council on April 21. Upcoming events include lectures by local historians, the “Kids & Queen Victoria” show featuring the art of local elementary students, and the 12th annual Historic Preservation Awards.

For more information on the season and its events, check out the Alameda Museum and Alameda Architectural Preservation Society websites. Or call 748-0796 to get a flyer.

City offers down payment assistance program

Did you know that the City of Alameda offers a down payment assistance program? The city offers up to $80,000 in assistance for low- to moderate-income families who live or work in Alameda and are seeking to buy their first home.

The city is hosting a series of free seminars to explain this and other homebuying programs. The next one is from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 16 at Alameda High School, 2200 Central Avenue. Registration for the seminars, which are administered by First Home Inc., can be done online or by calling (415) 561-5600, ext. 125.
