Today’s must-read: Eve Pearlman on 1150 Bay Street
Eve Pearlman’s got the skinny on one thing I didn’t get the chance to cover from last night’s council meeting: The running gun battle over plans to remodel a home at 1150 Bay Street.
This remodel project has made several appearances at the Historical Advisory Board, which finally approved the remodel a few months ago – including the porch that is at the heart of the fight – before being appealed, by a neighbor, to the council.
As Eve reports, two council members – Marie Gilmore and Doug deHaan – recused themselves from the discussion and vote because they live in the neighborhood. That left opponents of the project needing all three of the remaining council members’ votes – which they didn’t get (Lena Tan cast the no vote).
The quote of the night comes, I believe, from Robert Woolley, who appealed the project:
“Don’t stop this project for me. Do it for Alameda.”
By the way, you can check out videos of these meetings on the city’s website as the come available.
