Elderly woman dies from dog bite
Local papers are reporting that an 80-year-old Alameda woman died Tuesday from an infected dog bite. The Chronicle is reporting that Dolly Newell was walking her Rottweiler, Lily, Saturday on Bay Farm Island when another dog bit her finger. But she apparently told doctors at Alameda Hospital that she hurt herself gardening because she didn’t want the dog to be quarantined, the Chronicle reports.
A friend who went to check on her a few days later found her semi-conscious and she was taken to the hospital, where she died of the infection, The Chronicle said. Police are trying to find the dog and its owner, and they told that paper the owner won’t be in any trouble.
The Journal also reported on the incident, and you can find the story here.
