Tubes closed for late-night ceiling inspections
Caltrans will be closing both the Webster and Posey tubes from 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. Monday and Tuesday nights to inspect the ceilings, according to this brief article in the San Jose Mercury News.
The Webster Tube was closed on January 25 after an eight-foot-by-eight-foot slab of decorative concrete fell onto the road. No one was injured. A Caltrans spokesperson told a reporter that the tube is structurally sound.
The Posey Tube was closed by a bus accident a few days earlier.
If that Merc article isn’t enough for you, here’s the Chronicle’s longer take, with everything you wanted to know about those tubes but were afraid to ask (The Webster Tube was named after its location on Webster Street? The heck, you say!).
