MAN ARRESTED FOR ALLEGED MURDER ATTEMPT
Alameda police have arrested a man for allegedly attempting to choke his 7-year-old son. KTVU is reporting that the boy is in serious but stable condition and that police have arrested his father, Bashir Haidar, 47.
Police were called to a home in the 1100 block of Regent Street at 11:42 a.m. today on a report that the boy was having trouble breathing, according to police. When firefighters responded,Haidar apparently asked them if they had a gun and said he wanted to shoot his son and his wife, who was reportedly not home when firefighters arrived.
Firefighters found the boy struggling to breathe on the floor of the master bedroom in the family’s home. Police said the father choked the boy with his bare hands but did not have a motive for the alleged crime.
Alameda police took Haidar into custody and his son was taken to Children’s Hospital in Oakland.
