UPDATED Police investigate murder-suicide
Financial difficulties were the apparent motive for a murder-suicide on Bay Farm Island called in to police early this morning, Alameda police are saying tonight.
Alameda police Sgt. Kevin McNiff said friends and family of the deceased couple, whose names have not yet been released, got an e-mail saying they were having financial difficulties and couldn’t go on.
A friend who received the e-mail called 911 shortly before 6 a.m. today, McNiff said. Police who were dispatched to the scene found a note on the unlocked door of the couple’s home, in the 100 block of Keil Bay on Bay Farm Island, saying whoever found it should call the police and that their bodies were inside.
Police found the couple’s bodies upstairs. They said the man and woman, ages 60 and 59, each died from a single gunshot wound. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday, the Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau confirmed.
“It’s a tragedy,” McNiff said. “There’s two families that lost (loved ones).”
