The American Lung Association just released its report card on cities’ efforts to curtail smoking, and … well … Alameda got a big, fat F.

Our Island got just one of a possible 56 points on items that included creating smoke-free outdoor spaces like dining areas and recreation spaces, creating smoke-free housing and reducing sales of tobacco products (we got our point for requiring a conditional use permit for siting tobacco-selling products in certain places).

We’re in good company, though: Just one of the 297 California cities graded in the report, Glendale, received an A grade from the lung association, and 17 cities, including Berkeley and Oakland, got a B.

If you’re interested, you can check out the report right here.
