Hospital to extend office lease
Alameda Hospital’s board is slated to consider extending the lease it holds on office space at Alameda Towne Centre, a move its leadership sees as a key to starting a community clinic and attracting new doctors to the Island.
The board meets at 6 p.m. tonight in the hospital’s Dal Cielo Conference Room.
The hospital currently holds a month-to-month lease on a space behind Alameda Pediatric Dentistry, at 501 South Shore Centre West. CEO Deborah Stebbins wants to extend the lease on the 9,073-square-foot space to five years and to make aesthetic upgrades, according to a memo to the board. It calls this space “one of the few functional medical office buildings in Alameda.”
The lease, Stebbins says in the report, “is key to our immediate efforts to begin a community clinic and to attract new physicians to Alameda.” So far, the space houses the hospital’s off-site laboratory drawing station and the offices of internist James Hong and the late Daniel Kliman; one OB/GYN has signed on for July 1, and a second OB/GYN and an ophthalmologist have said they intend to work in the building as well.
The rent will start out at $15,768 a month. Upgrades are expected to cost $125,000.
The report is available in the hospital board’s meeting packet, here (pages 66-67).
