Breaking news, late

We just got word that the city revoked the Purple Elephant medical marijuana dispensary’s business license. The decision came down December 17. The dispensary is appealing the decision, Senior Assistant City Attorney Donna Mooney said. It was still open for business when we called a few days ago.

The dispensary set up shop on Webster Street in July, to the consternation of local businesses and city leaders, who fear it could bring crime. But the pot club’s supporters say it offers them a safe place to get medicine they need.

The City Council put a moratorium on additional pot clubs on the Island until they have rules in place to regulate them, a process they estimate could take them well into 2010.

We’ll have more for you on this as it comes. Or maybe a little after.
