Your weekend: The Nutcracker
Alameda Civic Ballet’s annual production of “The Nutcracker” is this weekend. The shows are at 7 p.m. Saturday, December 20 and 2 p.m. Sunday, December 21 at Kofman Auditorium, 2200 Central Avenue.
This year’s production features Daniel Escudero, who grew up in Alameda, as the Snow King. Escudero got his start at the Alameda School of Dance at age 7 and has moved on to dance with a number of professional companies, including the San Francisco Ballet and Kim Robards Dance, with whom he danced at the Olympics in Beijing this year.
Rounding out the quartet of professional dancers who will star in the show are Jamielyn Duggan as the Snow Queen, Meredith Webster as the Sugar Plum Fairy and Corey Scott-Gilbert as the Sugar Plum Cavalier.
The rest of the cast is made up of community members and local kids (and if I can insert an editorial note here, our family has actually participated in the Nutcracker, it was a great experience and the show was really impressive).
Anyway. Tickets are $27, $17 for seniors and youths, and are available here or by calling 864-2256. (The Sugar Plum Fairy party was sold out a week ago, sorry!) You can get more info on the show, and Alameda Civic Ballet, right here.
