The kid stays in the picture
Looks like this just-past City Council race isn’t the last we’ll see of Justin Harrison, the 26-year-old youth leader and Alamedian, on our local political scene. Mayor Beverly Johnson has nominated Harrison for a community-at-large seat on the city’s Economic Development Commission.
“My commitment through the entire campaign was that no matter what happened, I was going to be serving Alameda,” Harrison said.
He said a big part of his campaign centered around making Alameda financially stable, and he wants to grow the Island’s business base. So being on the Economic Development Commission made sense.
“I’m excited to be serving Alameda. You’re definitely going to be seeing a lot of me in the coming years,” he said. (Might that mean another run for the council, perhaps?)
Johnson also nominated Horst Breuer for four-year term on the commission. A third seat is still up for grabs.
The full council will likely vote on the nominations at their next meeting.
