Dining about town

So we actually made it out of the house for an evening on the town for the first time in since, oh, don’t ask, and we and our friend opted for a nice dinner out right here on the Island. We tried Pappo first but it was jammed and we couldn’t get in. So we headed around the corner onto Santa Clara to try BarCeluna.

We had never been there before, let alone since they redid the space. And we must say, it was definitely a treat.

We were greeted by BarCeluna’s oh-so-friendly staff and invited in to a warm space that had plank floors and spare but elegant lighting and colors and decoration.

They’ve got a lovely list of cocktails, and the salad we started with was tasty and huge. The tapas looked good but we were both really hungry, so we opted for entrees (they’ve also got wood-fired pizzas). We had the grilled chicken (yummy and spicy) with mashed potatoes (not too creamy, and we were glad to have something that looked lower-calorie than typical for a nice restaurant after totally pigging out on Halloween). Our friend had the biggest plate of steak we’d ever seen.

So they’re a little off the beaten track maybe, being on Santa Clara, but definitely a worthy re-addition to the burgeoning restaurant scene on and around Park Street and totally worth the left turn from the parking garage (we’ll have to check out Zen, the Asian fusion place in the same block, next). And if you get there early enough, there’s a cute new kids shoe place there also.

Anyway, they’re at 2319 Santa Clara Avenue, and their number is 521-LUNA. For more info, check them out right here.
